The James Street Road Improvements project included the replacement of an existing timber bridge supported on creosote timber piles at the abandoned railroad. The replacement structure is a single span precast concrete girder bridge supported on spread footings. The new structure spans over what is currently two drainage ditches within the Squalicum Creek watershed. The bridge and newly reconstructed stream channel are a part of the City of Bellingham’s larger Squalicum Creek Corridor project. The stream channel was designed to function in the current two ditch scenario and then to be modified slightly to accommodate the larger Squalicum Creek project which will include elimination of the ditches and relocation of Squalicum Creek to the new James Street bridge Structure. R&E performed structural construction management and inspection.
